About the Event

Blue-Green Connections, the City of Dunedin and Keep Pinellas Beautiful and The Water Warrior Alliance invite all who enjoy our local waters to stand together in support of keeping our waters healthy, transitioning to clean renewable energy, and against offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. WHY Dunedin is the Home City for the Florida Gulf Coast Hope Spot, a special area critical to the health of the whole ocean! Our current national 5-year offshore drilling program is set to expire at the end June of 2022 and the federal government must prepare a new one. Let's make our voices heard that we want to protect our Hope Spot!   WHERE Join us on the Dunedin Causeway just east of the restrooms and kayak rentals on May 21st in support of keeping our waters healthy.   WHEN May 21, 2022   8:00-9:30 - Registration (Just east of the restrooms on he south side of the causeway) 8:00 – 9:30am - Causeway Cleanup 9:40 – 10am – Words from city commissioners, staff, and environmental groups 10:00 – Join hands (or not) and form a line in the sand to stand in solidarity against offshore drilling WHO You! Hands Across the Sand is a movement made up of people from all walks of life; parents, friends, neighbors, small business owners, and more. We span political lines, geographic boundaries, and socioeconomic groups. We are united by the desire to protect our oceans, marine life, wildlife, our environment and our way of life. WHAT TO BRING Please remember to wear sunscreen and bring a reusable bottle to stay hydrated! If you forget yours, there will be a (very) limited supply of Hope Spot water bottles for sale and water fountains nearby. We encourage a reduced use of fossil fuels, so carpooling, biking, walking and skateboarding are all highly encouraged! AFTERWARDS Stay to frolic in the water and bask in the sun, bike/walk to Honeymoon Island, or hop a ferry, kayak, or paddleboard to Caledesi Island (rentals available from Sail Honeymoon). Call the Local Tiki Rides for free group transportation to Downtown Dunedin to enjoy the many shops, restaurants, breweries and bars and explore all that Dunedin has to offer! Cool side note - If you approach the causeway from the east on Curlew Rd, check out the new artwork on the water tower! Inspired by the Florida Gulf Coast Hope Spot and Dunedin's Hope Spot "Home City" designation, Henry the Gopher tortoise has been partially completed!
